AccidentallyAbroad ("we", "our") runs accidentallyabroad.com. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how to remove it.
What we collect
- Email address when you sign up for the newsletter or buy a guide. We use it to send the things you asked for and the email sequence you opted into.
- First name if you choose to provide it on the signup form. Used for personalisation in emails.
- Source / referrer (e.g. Pinterest, Google) recorded at signup so we can see which channels send real readers.
- IP address and user-agent recorded on signup attempts and login attempts. Used to stop bot abuse and rate-limit. Not used for tracking or sold to anyone.
- Cookies: a single first-party cookie (
aa_session) to keep you logged in. No third-party advertising cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 if it is enabled on the site at the time you visit, which sets its own cookies (see "Analytics" below). - Affiliate-link clicks through our
/go/...URLs: slug clicked, IP, user-agent, referrer. Used to see which products our readers actually find useful.
What we don’t collect
- Phone numbers, addresses, or any government identifiers.
- Payment information. Purchases go through Gumroad or Stripe; their privacy policies apply on those pages.
- Cross-site tracking pixels. We don’t use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or similar.
Newsletter signups are confirmed (double opt-in). You can unsubscribe with one click from any email; the link is in the footer of every message. Unsubscribing cancels any pending automated emails immediately.
Analytics
When Google Analytics 4 is enabled, basic page-view data is collected through Google. Google’s own privacy controls and cookie behaviour apply. You can opt out via your browser’s "Do Not Track" setting, a content blocker, or by visiting Google’s opt-out.
Where data lives
Your email and account data are stored on a dedicated server we operate. Backups are encrypted at rest. We don’t share your email with anyone, for any reason.
How to delete your data
Reply to any email or write to hello@accidentallyabroad.com and ask. We’ll remove the row, no questions asked. Unsubscribe alone doesn’t delete; it just stops emails. Ask for full deletion if that’s what you want.
Changes
If we change anything material on this page, we’ll update the date at the top and email subscribers a short summary.
